In an English boarding house for the upper classes, human relations are a disaster: hypocrisy, deceit, a lack of respect for oneself and others, fraud, underhand dealings and, above all, contempt. Until, on the third Friday of an ordinary November, a mysterious traveller arrives and rents the room on the third floor at the back, regarded as little more than an attic. By engaging with the guests one by one, the man manages to bring out the best in them, urging them to become, if not good, at least human. But who is this mysterious lodger who always has a smile for everyone and speaks of a king who was once born in a stable?
