L’affare Édouard

Édouard, a great friend of the lawyer Charançon and especially of his wife, was caught one evening in the company of the latter in the privè of a restaurant by a public official who had the wrong address. The lady reacted by slapping the public official and insulting him, so they are both waiting to be summoned to court. In the meantime, Charançon has lost his head over a horsewoman he would love to court.
In the second act, the characters move to Édouard’s house where Charançon tries in vain to seduce the horsewoman, but is continually interrupted by his servant and a friend who involve him in a competition on the preparation of mayonnaise.
The third act is all set in the Court where, between various arguments and confusions between one case and another, everyone will resume their roles and return home without having yet understood who was the accused and who the accuser.
