Il mistero della Rue Rousselet

Nazaire, a servant, has just been taken on in a house in Rue Rousselet whose tenants are behaving strangely. The furniture is empty and they demand that the servant always speak in a whisper without even knowing their real names. As if that weren’t enough, the owner often enters a dark room only to come out in anguish. A nosy neighbour and a betrayed husband interfere in the matter with hilarious consequences.
A few years after L’affaire de la Rue de Lourcine, Labiche wrote this one-act play that once again tackles the subject of comic detective stories with different twists (the mystery is revealed to the public fairly quickly), and which, at the end, takes on the classic tones of vaudeville.
