Pierrot Narciso (Sogno d’inverno)
by Albert Giraud
On a Carnival night, Pierrot, surrounded by some of his friends, is forced to confront himself, his feelings, his nature and the loneliness that arises in him from the realization that he does not belong to the world of hypocrisy and falsehood in which others are comfortable.
A delicate theatrical poem by Albert Giraud, known for Pierrot Lunaire set to music by Arnold Schoenberg, in which Pierrot’s mask becomes a symbol of the isolation felt by the poet in a world that is unable to understand him.
