L&#8217;architecte doit faire une expertise dans un h\u00f4tel qui serait habit\u00e9 par des fant\u00f4mes. L&#8217;entrepreneur d\u00e9cide de profiter de l&#8217;absence de l&#8217;architecte et de r\u00e9server une chambre \u00e0 l&#8217;H\u00f4tel du Libre Echange pour rencontrer Marcelle, mais ayant trop bu et trop fum\u00e9, il tombe malade et sort de la chambre. A son retour, lui et Marcelle sont surpris par le commissaire de la brigade mondaine qui les conduit en prison et, dans une vaine tentative de se sauver, les deux lui fournissent de fausses donn\u00e9es personnelles (celles de leurs \u00e9pouses l\u00e9gitimes).
