At first, Am\u00e9lie is Etienne&#8217;s mistress who is about to leave for military service. Before his departure, Etienne entrusts Am\u00e9lie to his best friend, Marcel. Meanwhile, Marcel&#8217;s godfather arrives and mistakes Am\u00e9lie for his girlfriend. So as not to disillusion the good godfather, Am\u00e9lie agrees to pretend to be Marcel&#8217;s girlfriend. But what was supposed to happen happens and one morning Am\u00e9lie wakes up in the same bed as Marcel. The godfather surprises the two of them in a condition that leaves no doubt about their feelings, and therefore expects the marriage to take place quickly. The godfather, however, unintentionally informed Etienne of his misfortune and he immediately returned and vowed to take revenge. Etienne let Am\u00e9lie marry Marcel, making his friend believe that the ceremony in the city hall was fake and that it was orchestrated by him with the sole purpose of mocking the godfather.
