Suddenly his pregnant wife L\u00e9onie informs him that she is in pain and tells him she is worried because she is due to give birth in just a month. The husband, meanwhile, has eaten too much and is the victim of hiccups, so as if they were taking part in a procession, the two of them start going up and down arm in arm around the room. At a certain point, L\u00e9onie&#8217;s mother arrives and fills her with gifts for the baby, including a chamber pot; she absolutely wants her husband to put it on his head because she had a premonitory dream, and he does so. Meanwhile comes the midwife who can&#8217;t make herself understood by Toudoux.
