Also on the trip are two young men, Armand and Daniel, who are pursuing the family because they have fallen in love with the girl.<br \/>\nDuring a hike, Perrichon falls disastrously into a precipice and is rescued by Armand, for whom he begins to have great dislike. Daniel, understanding the man&#8217;s character, allows himself to fall into a precipice and is rescued by him in order to win his affection.
